Corralejo BeachCorralejo is the largest holiday resort In Fuerteventura. The resort, originally a quiet fishing village, has over the years  transformed into a lively Fuerteventura holiday resort. Although Corralejo has many shops and a very lively nightlife (that Flicks Bar is at the centre of!), the tourism here is not overwhelming and there is also a tranqil side to Corralejo.

In fact the beauty of Corralejo is that you can choose whatever sort of day or night you want…lively or chilled. There are several miles of wonderful sand dunes located nearby, which have been designated as a nature reserve and the waters around Corralejo are clear and an intense shade of blue.

Los LobosLos Lobos Island Just a couple of kilometers off the coast from Corralejo can be seen the small Island of Los Lobos. 15km squared.

It is a protected nature zone that has plants and birds that are not found anywhere else in the world, as well as many endangered species. It has some lovely beaches and there are a few boats that make regular trips from Corralejo harbour to the island every day.

These take about ten minutes to get to Los Lobos and you can get off and spend half or the whole day relaxing on the beach or snorkelling in the shallow turquoise waters..or, if you are more energetic, you can walk around the Island and spot the plants and birds that are unique to this area. Well worth a visit, Los Lobos can be a great half or full day out.

fred_olsen_2Ferry To Lanzarote From Corralejo, Lanzarote is just a quick ferry trip away and ideal for a day out. Two main ferries travel between Corralejo and Playa Blanca in Lanzarote: The Fred Olsen Express ferry, named the ‘Bocayna Express’, or “The Cat” takes only 12 minutes to get to Lanzarote and takes foot passengers as well as cars.

The other ferry is the Naviera Armas, called the ‘Volcan de Tindaya’, which takes about 25 minutes or so to make the trip, and costs a little bit less than the Fred Olsen. You can travel on foot or by car on this boat too.

Once in Lanzarote there are many many different sites to see and things to do. You can just relax in Playa Blanca, go shopping in Puerto Del Carmen or visit places such as Timanfaya National park – where volcanic activity is still happening under the surface (temperatures can be as high as 600 °C!!!!) and this is demonstrated by pouring water into the ground which makes a giant geyser of steam shoot into the air.
